Apologies for the recent inactivity dear readers, but since nailing up Season 3, Pulling the Wire has been busy living in the boring old real world. Thankfully, we have now been re-upped by a mope (cheers Ed!), and Season 4 is set to commence tonight. In anticipation of cracking into a new series, we bring you a special lookalike from Season 3 which has been stored in the locker for the last few weeks: The Deacon vs Salad Fingers.

Rival lookalikes #1 - the Wire vs the NBA
Word has reached Pulling the Wire that, when not bothering the mean streets of Baltimore, our favourite Wire stars like to chillax on the basketball court. Of course, as lookalikeys go, these are all rubbish compared to the home-grown talent we have at PTW, however I do quite like the one of Morgan Freeman looking like some other dude.
Though let's not encourage these amateur rivals. Tell us in the comments how much you love Pulling the Wire!

The Six Degrees of Sepootration
Hey so here's a new game you can play all of once: Poot numbers.
Here's how it works: my friend's sister is in a movie with McNutty from the Wire, who must have been in at least one Wire scene with the Legend that is Poot. This gives me a Poot number of 4, the number of connections between me and the Man Himself.
Can you beat that? Are you closer to Pootness than me? Let us know your Poot number (and whatever crazy convoluted network you used to achieve it) in the comments!

Lookalikes #3 - D'Angelo's mum vs Princess Fiona
While watching a particularly emotive scene in which McNulty tells D'Angelo's mum, "Honestly? I was looking for someone who cared...", I (much like every other Wire puller I assume) felt her pain and sympathised a mother losing her son. However, the heart-rending distress is short-lived if you reimagine the scene being played out with Shrek's bride* Princess Fiona in the role of Brianna Barksdale. Yes dear readers, we have a new lookalike for you today: D'Angelo's mum and Princess Fiona from Shrek!

D'Angelo's mum
So which would you rather take on in a fight, D'Angelo's mum or Princess Fiona?? Let us know in the comments. FIIGGHHHHHTTTTTT!!!!!!

The Truth Behind the Eyes: of Dennis "Cutty" Wise
As an avid fan of Cutty in the Wire, I have been oft-concerned about his low-to-zero blink rate. Could this be a worrying sign of the onset of Parkinson's disease? Or simply a natural response to high-workload conditions, such as prolonged automobile driving in congested areas? It's unlikely to be an indication of dopaminergic hypoactivity caused by recreational cocaine use, since (at least at the time of writing) Cutty has been seen to get Wired only once, and not enough to justify a reduction in dopamine D2 receptors in the striatum, nor to cause hypoactivity dysfunctions in the lateral prefrontal cortex, the anterior cingulate cortex, or the orbitofrontal cortex.
Well fear not fellow Wire pullers, because I can reveal to you exclusively that Cutty's trance-like stare is caused by none of the above. The real truth started to unfold last night when I caught an exceedingly rare event: Dennis "Cutty" Wise actually appeared to blink.
In "Slapstick" (Wire S3E09), approximately 18 and 1/2 minutes in, we witness what may indeed look like a blink. However, on closer inspection and with freeze frame digital enhancing, you can see that it is actually actor Chad Coleman's nictitating membrane protecting his eyeball.
This startling discovery has since been confirmed by Chad's agent, with whom I spoke this morning:
Fascinating stuff hey?! Sometimes I feel we could all learn something from Cutty - I for one am never going to blink again. When was the last time you blinked dear reader? Let us know in the comments!

“Chad's eyeballs have upper and lower eyelids, but these lids don't move and don't close over the eye. When biting prey, Chad sometimes protects his eyes with a third eyelid called the nictitating membrane. This is a thin, tough membrane which can be drawn across the eye to protect it from damage.”

Lookalikes #2 - Malik "Poot" Carr vs Circus Flea from A Bug's Life
In an exclusive world first for Pulling the Wire, we have for you dear readers a fan-submitted lookalike!!! Could it be that I have already found others who watch the Wire with the same childlike innocence and simple wonderment as myself? This, my friends, puts my own lookalikey attempts to such utter shame but I can only be proud that I am not alone.
So, courtesy of Richard's Holly, here is Poot Carr vs Circus Flea!!

Lookalikes #1 - Lt. Mello vs Roland Rat
Pulling the Wire - a brief intro
Word up perps!
It seems that everybody who appreciates The Wire gets it on their own personal level. Having recently watched a few episodes with my housemate, after experiencing 2.5 series' worth on my own, I started to realise that the level at which I appreciate the show is.... perhaps different from that of others.
So this blog is an attempt to ascertain how unique my experience of The Wire really is - hopefully I can find others who share my thoughts and confirm that I'm not such the weirdo my housemate now thinks I am.
To kick things off, is there anybody else out there whose favourite character is Poot??? Please let me know in the comments...
POW!
